Study of the Sea
My recent artistic study has been much influenced by a study of the blues & the dynamic movement of the sea. Over the past year, I’ve tried to understand not only the varied hues of blue—ranging from the deepest navy to the delicate translucence of coastal light—but also the ever-changing energy that defines the ocean’s character. The horizon alone has at times bewildered me & I've found myself staring intently off into the distance (you know, the bit where all those tiny ships live) wondering which colour I would even start with if I were to paint it.
This exploration is reflected in a collection of several distinct pieces, each representing a unique interpretation of the sea. Through these works, I have endeavored to capture the sea’s multifaceted nature: its powerful waves, gentle tides, & subtle interplay between light & water. Each piece conveys different moods and perspectives, from bold abstractions expressing the ocean’s raw force, to more nuanced, fluid compositions that evoke tranquility and reflection.
This body of experimental work is an invitation for viewers to connect with the sea’s enduring beauty.
Most of these works are incomplete or very experimental, so this is more of a “warts-and-all” display. Nevertheless, enjoy!
